WELCOME TO MY NERD HAUL.
I attended Supanova on April 29 and 30, it was awesome, as usual. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s basically like a mini Comic Con that happens in Australia. Lots of stalls, food trucks, panels, authors and celebs to see! It occurs yearly around April and it’s a tradition (for me, my partner & friends) to attend!
Usually I cosplay as part of a group but I went incognito this year. Maybe next year I’ll dress up. ❤ I did wear nerdy Blackmilk Clothing though so that’s a win! Now, on to the haul!
Pop Vinyls / Funkos
I’ll just go ahead and say it: I went mental buying funko pops. I have no regrets, THEY’RE ALL SO CUTE! I may or may not have bought 11 (not all pictured).
Pop vinyls: Loki, Dug, Groot, Harry (with sorting hat), Logan, Starlord, Rocket, Dobby, Bellamy, Clarke & Dachshund (from Pets). Cos if you didn’t know, I’m a tad obsessed with dachshunds.
I met the loud & lovely Vic Mignogna, voice actor of many a popular anime character! He voiced Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist so I met him and got volume 1 of the manga signed! He wrote “Ed loves Bec” which was just hilarious, and called me sweetie. What a gem! XD
I Am A Hero by Kengo Hanazawa.
I bought this because it’s about zombies. I finished it on May 1 and gave it 3 stars. It was very mediocre at the start but the zombies kick in half way (nothing worse than a rent-demanding undead creature coming at you). Apart from hating the protagonist, I enjoyed this. Hoping he grows because he’s a turd at the moment. Considering reading on but at this stage, not sure. The art is AMAZING, though!
Anime / Movie
I bought The Boy and the Beast because I saw this movie in cinemas (either last year, or in 2015) and I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s not Studio Ghibli (like “Japanese Disney”) but it’s pretty similar. Made by the creators of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; this was another gorgeous movie.
Synopsis: When a young orphaned boy living on the streets of Shibuya stumbles upon a fantastic world of beasts, he’s taken in by a gruff warrior beast looking for an apprentice.
I really want to be more descriptive but I don’t want to spoil anything! Just watch it, aaahhhh!
I picked up the first book in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, its title is Moon Called, and Patrica was so lovely and signed a little coyote in my book! This was recommended to me by my work friend Meaghan purely because of a strong female lead which promises conflict and hilarity (also werewolves).
Here’s a synopsis for you:
Mercedes “Mercy” Thompson is a talented Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She also happens to be a walker, a magical being with the power to shift into a coyote at will. Mercy’s next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. And Mercy’s connection to those things is about to get her into some serious hot water…
So, in conclusion, yes, I did buy more than 10 pop vinyls in one weekend. But it was awesome. My feet were dead from walking all day, though.
Also, I’ve already read Fullmetal Alchemist volume 1, and I read I Am A Hero the day I got it. Sooo I’m not counting those towards my Project 5… BUT… I may have to count Moon Called. Damn it. Five more behind.
Do you go to conventions? Have you read any Patricia Briggs? What fandoms are you part of?
Thanks for reading! ❤
