HYPED FOR THE PROGRAM – Melbourne Writers Festival!

Welcome to my pre-festival MWF post!

I’m just giving a run-down of what I am PUMPED for in this year’s program! I’m so excited and I wanted to share it with you! If you’re around I hope to see you there! ❤

I feel like I should mention that the theme for this festival is REVOLUTION, focussing on oppression, marginalisation, feminism and a whole host of other topics!

Tickets on sale 9am Friday, July 21!!

thumbnail_IMG_2024When Angie Thomas was announced for MWF I legitimately almost cried. Her book The Hate U Give (or THUG) was so accessible and poignant, I definitely recommend it! (Review here.)

Angie will be the very first YA keynote speech EVER at MWF and I am BEYOND EXCITED. *heart eyes*

She’ll be at two events, link to them both is here. 😀 I’m planning on attending both so we’ll see how I go!!

Another author I am over the moon about: SAMANTHA SHANNON!!!!

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 9.59.47 amHoly crapola. I read The Bone SeasonThe Mime Order AND The Song Rising ALL THIS YEAR. This timing couldn’t be more perfect. I am LOVING this series, so chuffed it’s going to be 7 books long. More Paige, more Warden, more SCION LONDON. It’s safe to say that these books are new favourites and you’d better believe they’re all being signed at this festival. ❤

Her sessions can be found here! I’ve also reviewed all 3 books, but the first one for The Bone Season can be found here if you’re interested!

screen-shot-2017-02-28-at-9-41-58-pmYes, there’s a Harry Potter day. Raise your cups of Butterbeer, can I get a hallelujah?! Dress up is compulsory! (Eheheh.)

I may or may not be a Harry Potter fan.

Can you tell.

Nah didn’t think so. (I hope to see you there if you can make it, event details here!)

SO, in conclusion, these are the handful of events I’ll be attending for this year’s MWF! You can find the program here:

  • OPENING NIGHT: Kim Scott keynote speech (Fri 25 Aug, 6:30pm)
  • Angie Thomas keynote speech (Sun 27 Aug, 4pm)
  • Reality & Fantasy (Sun 27 Aug, 11:30am) I’d love to go to this one, but it clashes with the AMA below so I’ll have to miss it unfortunately!
  • YA AMA (Sun 27 Aug, 11am)
  • The Bone Season (Sun 27 Aug, 2:30pm)
  • Rape Culture – Feminism Plus (Sat 2 Sep, 11:30am)
  • Dystopian Fiction – Readings Recommends (Sat 2 Sep, 1pm)
  • Seminar: Writing Another (Fri 1 Sep, 6pm)
  • Harry Potter Day!!! (Sun 3 Sep, 10am)
  • #LoveOzYA (Sun 3 Sep, 2:30pm)

As a Digital Storyteller (if you’re sneaky you can find me in the program, hehe) I cannot wait to share updates with you! If you’re tweeting along (or on social media in general) use the hashtag #MWF17 cos I know I will be! 😀

Are you going to the above events I’ve listed, too? Are you seeing something or someone else? Let me know in the comments! SO EXCITED FOR THIS FESTIVAL!

The festival runs from Aug 25 – Sep 3. ❤

A huge and humbled thank you to the Melbourne Writers Festival team for inviting me to be part of their Digital Storyteller program!
