Book Hauls

Welcome to my May book haaaaaul!!! 😀

I received birthday points on my Dymocks card so naturally I had to buy books. You can’t say no to points! I got the three books below and am so pumped about them ALL.

Sabriel – by Garth Nix
My friend Jordan has been poking me like ‘read dis’ so I finally caved and bought a copy. A YA fantasy with undead and magic, how could I NOT be intrigued.
“For many years Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom, away from the random power of Free Magic, and away from the Dead who won’t stay dead. But now her father, the Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into that treacherous world – and face the power of her own extraordinary destiny.”

Stone Girl – by Eleni Hale
I bought this because I’ve heard it’s gritty and honest, plus Eleni is from Melbourne so I was chuffed to support a local author! I’ve heard of 0 YA books on this subject matter, too, so it felt important.
“An unspeakable event changes everything. No more Mum, school or bed of her own. She’s made a ward of the state and grows up in a volatile world where kids make their own rules, adults don’t count and the only constant is change.”

The Rithmatist – by Brandon Sanderson
A middle grade fantasy by a fave writer, I didn’t hesitate in grabbing it because it’s Sanderson… I think arithmetic is the key in magical power in this book/series? But honestly I’ve no idea, I’m just generally excited. Another on my Sanderson shelf! But I’m getting through his books fairly quickly.

Thank you Kristy for helping me get this proof copy of Percy Jackson! I nearly screamed when it arrived in the mail, I love it so, so much.

A Thousand Perfect Notes – by C G Drews
“When passion turns to obsession.” It’s got an ominous hook on the cover, but this book has a beautiful heart and I was very emotional, happy and satisfied reading it. Thank you Hachette for sending me a final copy! I actually procured a proof copy by other means, so I’ve already read this beautiful book! Expect a review shortly, release date for this fab thang is June 7, 2018!

Spinning Silver – by Naomi Novik
HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP I GOT A PROOOOOF! A book by the same author as Uprooted. Here’s the tail end of the synopsis:
“But having the reputation of being able to change silver to gold can be more trouble than it’s worth–especially when her fate becomes tangled with the cold creatures that haunt the wood, and whose king has learned of her reputation and wants to exploit it for reasons Miryem cannot understand.”

The Necromancer (book 4) – by Michael Scott
I can’t say too much about this book, I didn’t read the blurb as I’ve only finished book 1 (The Alchemyst). But this is from a middle grade series about twins (a boy and girl) with powers, essentially. The story involves many gods (Greek, Norse, Egyptian). They’re incredibly fun so THANK YOU to my buddy Jordan for buying me this one for my birthday! It’s the only one I was missing!

Clean – by Juno Dawson
I bought a finished shiny copy as I was initially sent the ARC! I loved this book and I reviewed it here

As a birthday treat to myself, I got volume 8 of Blue Exorcist and also volume 1 of Platinum End, a new series by the creator/writer of Death Note which I loved. This one is about angels but the content is incredibly explicit (suicide, violence, sex) so just a forewarning if you’re planning to pick it up! Fruits Basket 6 & came in via a trade on twitter, yas. ❤

Legion: Skin Deep – by Brandon Sanderson
A sequel novella to Legion, following Stephen Leeds and his multiple personality manifestations as they solve murders together. YAS. I’ll be reading this VERY soon, Sanderson’s novellas blow me away.

I thought this’d be it, but, BUT….!!!! Allen & Unwin sent me a hugely anticipated book EARLY!! AAAHH! And that book is Charmcaster by Sebastian de Castell (who’s made it into my list of fave authors). Spellslinger and Shadowblack have both been reviewed on my blog! This YA fantasy series is funny, surprising & intriguing, highly recommend!

I also preordered Spinning Silver from Goldsboro, even though I have an ARC copy. This finished copy is hardback, signed, lined & has sprayed edges. Only 150 of them exist!

  1. Ahh charmcaster looks amazing with the others 😍 such pretty spines and covers I’m excited to read it 😊 I have sabriel to read too mainly coz so many people love it. I hope you like Stone Girl I’m so happy it exists in the YA world and from an aussie 💗

    1. It WAS amazing, aaaahhh! I’m so sad it comes out on July 30 cos it means I can’t flip out about it to anyone yet. Can’t wait for you to get to it though. 😀
And yesss Stone Girl, I saw how much you enjoyed it and am very keen. So many people DO seem to love Sabriel, I’ve also noticed? It is TIME, haha!

    1. Ooo you’ve finished it? I feel like I will enjoy Uprooted more, cos it had me immediately. I’m 70 or so pages into Spinning Silver and I like it but it’s not hooked me. BUT, it’s beautiful, and I am keen to finish it. 🙂
